![]() If a client is experiencing suicidal or homicidal ideation or is having a mental health crisis they should go to their nearest hospital emergency room or call 911. It is not as effective if someone is in a mental health crisis as it is one step removed from immediate attention physically. It also works well with substance abuse and anger management if the client is willing to follow a treatment plan. For depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss, stress and life problems, Virtual Therapy is very good. People who need to schedule at times convenient for themselves, people who want/need to be at home and people who do not want to drive can all take advantage of Virtual Counseling. The convenience factor is very important in Virtual Therapy. It is basically the same counseling experience except that it is done with Video instead of In-Office. Virtual Therapy or Remote Counseling is not that different from the In-Office Therapy & Counseling experience and can provide the safety, confidentiality and security of the In-Office session. To connect by VSee: Go to, accept the invitation, and follow the prompts to download VSee Messenger and create an account. Unsecured platforms like WhatsApp are not acceptable for telehealth. With the relaxation of HIPAA enforcement for telemedicine during the pandemic, non-HIPAA-compliant (but encrypted and secure) platforms such as Zoom, Skype and FaceTime can also be used. Preferred platforms are VSee and, both of which are securely encrypted and HIPAA-compliant. With the huge increase in the use of telemedicine during the pandemic, many networks are experiencing intermittent connectivity issues, so it is useful to be prepared to use more than one platform. There are several platforms that usually work well for videoconferencing. If you do not have a suitable device or private location, or if you have a strong aversion to using video technology for any reason, I am happy to do sessions by phone. I encourage all current patients who have a device suitable for videoconferencing (desktop computer, laptop, tablet or phone) and an appropriately private location to conduct remote sessions by videoconference. For refill requests, please have the patient contact me – I do not honor refill requests from pharmacies. To initiate a prior authorization request, please use CoverMyMeds or call the office and leave a message including all pertinent information. I will not have access to my fax machine while working remotely. I am re-assessing transmission rates daily. I will resume in-person appointments at the office once case rates are low enough that the risk of prolonged unmasked contact in an enclosed indoor space is minimal.
